The award ceremonies are always exciting and this year is no exception.
The Retina Fellows Research Award is presented for outstanding original research performed by a senior surgical retina fellow. The winner will be invited to present their work as a specially recognized paper at the 42nd Annual American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS) Meeting, July 17-20, 2024, in Stockholm. This award includes complimentary meeting registration and an unrestricted $1,500 travel grant. The winner will be announced at the 24th Annual Retina Fellows Forum bowling tournament on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
The following are the guidelines for submissions for the award.
“This is a great opportunity for a young fellow to begin their career on the podium by giving a named recognized lecture at the largest retina meeting in the world,” said Tarek Hassan, MD, a cofounder of the Retina Fellows Research Forum.
This award is presented by the Foundation of the ASRS to a randomly selected fellow in attendance at the 24th Annual Retina Fellows Forum Meeting. This award includes a $2,000 travel grant to attend the 42nd Annual ASRS Meeting, July 17-20, 2024, in Stockholm, Sweden. The winner must be present at the bowling tournament on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
The distinguished guest speaker John Thompson, MD, a world-renowned clinician, surgeon, and educator, will deliver an address titled “How to Find Your Forever Job and Avoid a Nightmare Job.” Dr. Thompson is Assistant Professor at the Wilmer Eye Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Maryland, and a Partner at Retina Specialists in Baltimore.
This lecture, according to Carl Awh, MD, a conference co-founder, said that the lecture is an opportunity for fellows to hear a well-known clinician and a “big figure in the world of retina” who will speak about a non-clinical topic that will provide audience members with guidelines about how to forward their careers.
